About the Author

Six Hundred spent 12 out of the 14 years he worked for the Benefits Agency investigating Benefit Fraud. He served five years as a Fraud Officer and then over seven as a Special Investigator.

One of his prominent beliefs was, and still is, that the investigation of Benefit Fraud should act as a deterrent. He researched and wrote several papers on how to improve the policy and management behind the investigation of this fraud and was paid a special bonus for one.

He was born in London in 1951, the youngest of three and was born with severely deformed feet; the consequences of which led to his dogged determination. He pursued hobbies of sailing where in his first open meeting, at the age of 14; he won the race in wonderment that everybody else was capsizing. It was gusting gale force nine. In motor sport he was not so successful; he found himself stuck on a mound with all four wheels in the air and on another occasion managed to knock over nine out of a dozen pylons in a speed trial that went a little bit sideways and awfully wrong. He would have been better pleased to get all 12!

In 1993 he was threatened and robbed of official documents and told "If you go to the police about this, it will be the last thing you ever do". Despite his genuine fears, he did go to the police and made sure the man went to prison. When the villain came out, Six Hundred was once more asked to look into his circumstances. Again, he did. This time though it led to a breakdown and his subsequent retirement on the grounds of ill health at the peak of his very successful career. He was aged 43. He has never fully recovered.

In 2006 he was diagnosed as suffering with Bipolar Disorder - Mixed State and since then has spent a significant amount of time trying to learn how to manage his condition and helping others to do the same. The diagnosis provided the fundamental answer to the question as to why he investigated a man he believed was out to kill him for putting him behind bars and having over £4m of stolen property confiscated.

Six Hundred has two-grown up children, both of whom are married.
